While equity is important, the new lottery-based rules apply a one-size-fits-all approach that undermines local control and fails to account for effort, attendance, and discipline history. These regulations were based on flawed data interpretations and contradict DESE’s own findings, which show minimal need for systemic reform.

Key Message:""Massachusetts has a long-standing tradition of educational excellence that a lottery admissions system simply cannot uphold. I am writing to urge you to reverse the lottery admissions that were abruptly forced on the schools and instead commit to a future where access is guaranteed through investment, not luck. Please prioritize the expansion of all Chapter 74 & CTE programs through funding necessary to give our students the tools they deserve. Our goal should be to build enough high-quality technical & agricultural pathways so that no student's career ambitions are decided by a roll of the dice."
Call
Clearly and respectfully state your opposition to the lottery admission system for Voc-Tech & Agricultural Schools. Students and Parents are encouraged to make this call to their Legislators.
Express your concern that this policy "waters down" high educational standards and creates "winners and losers" among students.
If you have a personal story share it in 3-5 sentences. (alumni, school committee member, parent, student, waitlisted student etc)
State that you are following the information provided by www.mavoctechcoalition.org
Compose a personalized detailed email or a short video if you are a student to your Legislator's office, reiterating the points made during the phone call.
Include the following key arguments:
The lottery system undermines Massachusetts' tradition of high educational expectations.
Eliminating standards like grades, attendance, and behavior is detrimental to student achievement.
Fact-finding by a Vocational Task force, rather than a lottery, would ensure a cohesive plan to expand the system and that all students have access to valuable Voc-Tech Agricultural education system.
Refer to the information provided by www.mavoctechcoalition.org.
